I got a wee baby guinea pig from the pet store, and I was told he had deformities. (One of the reasons I got him, imagine if a little kid took him home!?)

But apparently he has a curved spine (I can feel that much) and his hips are fused so he kind of 'hops' although I see him use his feet a bit, wouldn't it hurt him? The lady told me he was in no pain...

Also, he drools... a lot. (That's why I've named him "Bib," plus it's a weird name, and I like weird names.) I've never known a guinea pig to do that, I know it's a bad sign for a rabbit (generally teeth problems.)

I'm going to get a vet at my work to take a look at him if I can this Sunday. I'll also find out how old he needs to be to get him neutered at the same time... cos I've never had a guinea pig neutered, but I know you can do it. I've only ever had females, so this is new to me! :-)

I've taken a video of him walking, but it was on a couch chair so it's a bit slanted anyway, he doesn't appear to be in any pain. But I just think the sound of 'fused hips' sounds awfully painful to me.. so I don't know...

Has anyone had any experience with a guinea pig with fused hips?

Okay the video html won't work, so here's a link: http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p251/sist3r_spo0ky/?action=view¤t=DSCF4536.flv

Do you know what makes him ever-so-special to me? I actually have a curved spine too. :-) Mine is not near as pronounce, because we have such different bodies from a guinea pig. But ocassionally I limp because my hips are affected, and it's caused one leg to be longer than the other. Me and him have something in common! ♥

Yeah I figure surgery on top of a disability would be hard. We still haven't been able to get my dog spayed, as she's had problems after problems and she's been sick most her life. But once she's had this last operation on her leg we'll finally be able to get her done! She's so curious about the guinea pig, (he ignores her!) we were going to name him "Bib," but it just doesn't seem to fit him.. so he's 'the guinea pig' at the moment, poor thing!

I think his name is going to take a while, cos he's so special he can't have a boring name like my poor dog who got called 'Tammy,' which is a lovely human name, but not so great for a dog... a bit too common.
